For its very first touring exhibition, the members of Manhattan Quilters Guild chose to make quilts based on a form of Japanese poetry known as haiku--a short poem which tells of a specific event or observation, often associated with a season of the year. Whether inspired by a traditional Japanese haiku, or an original one written by the artist, each artist was free to interpret the written word in his or her own style, reflecting the rich diversity of creativity that results when New York sensibilities and Japanese traditions come together. All works are sized at 36" x 36".
