This quilt is an artistic rendering of recrystallization, the physical process of continuous rearrangement and reorganization at the molecular level, separating mixtures into their perfectly ordered components. At the bottom of the quilt, the unrefined materials are mixed in color and simple in shape and towards the top the colors and shapes are more and more refined.
The vibrancy of colors and hues found in silks, its reflective properties and the visual changes presented when the fabrics are cut at varying angles and seen under different lighting, makes silk as the material uniquely well suited to try to capture the evolving magic of crystalline formations.
